About this Nominee
Jacqueline Engel has been very active in the Schuylkill County business and art communities since relocating here in 2020. Upon taking the helm at the Walk In Art Center only 6 weeks before the pandemic, she has imore than doubled the WIAC’s balance sheet and continues to grow the Walk In’s programming and impact in the community. The Walk In Art Center is an integral part of the revitalization of Southern Schuylkill County and is a destination for arts unlike any in the area. It now sees more than 11,000 patrons, artists, students, and visitors annually. She now strives to raise the awareness and prestige of the arts in Schuylkill County and has found a home amidst the talented visual artists at the WIAC. Under Jacquie’s leadership, the Walk In Art Center was awarded the Non-Profit Organization of the Year by the Schuylkill Chamber in 2022.
Jacquie has quickly become a leader in the business community as well, serving on the Schuylkill County Board of Directors since 2023 and is an active member of the Schuylkill Women in Business Committee. In addition to her role as Executive Director of the Walk In Art Center, Jacquie is the Music Director/pianist at First United Church of Christ in Schuylkill Haven and has Bachelor degrees in Music and Arts Management (University of Massachusetts-Amherst) and a Master’s Degree in Arts Administration (University of Kentucky). She founded the female vocal group, “The SchuylGurlz” in 2021 and performs and directs theatre and music productions in the county and beyond. Prior to moving to Schuylkill County, Jacquie was the Artistic Director of the Community Theatre League in Williamsport and has directed and/or music directed over 179 productions in high school, regional, community, and collegiate theatres. She is the creator/founder of the prestigious Ray of Light Awards which is televised on WNEP annually, winning the PA Broadcasters Award for Best Local Special Event in 2011.
Jacquie resides in Pottsville with her dog Mr. Bingley, and two pound kitties, Benedick and Beatrice, and is a rabid college basketball fan (Go CATS!). In her free time, she teaches voice and piano, plays the flute, and is working to be proficient on the harp and in Italian.
